What Happens During Body Sculpting Surgery?

Immediately prior to body sculpting surgery, general anesthesia is administered to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the surgery. Then, the exact surgical process will depend on the treatments involved and your individualized treatment plan. Although some techniques may be combined to minimize scarring, resulting in some slight variations, patients can generally expect the following processes for each component of body sculpting surgery:

Mommy Makeover

During a mommy makeover surgery, the surgical process is tailored to the individual's needs, but typically includes a tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction. A tummy tuck typically starts with a horizontal incision above the pubic area to remove excess skin and tighten abdominal muscles. Breast procedures may involve incisions around the areola or under the breast fold for augmentation, lift, or reduction, depending on the patient's goals. Liposuction can be performed at various points during the surgery, targeting specific areas with stubborn fat deposits through small incisions and using a cannula to suction out the fat.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck begins with a horizontal incision across the lower abdomen, typically from hip to hip, just above the pubic area. Through this incision, Dr. Pisarski removes excess skin and fat and may repair weakened or separated abdominal muscles to create a firmer abdominal wall. In some cases, a second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen. The remaining skin is then pulled down, and the navel is repositioned if needed.

Liposuction

Liposuction involves small, discreet incisions in the targeted areas for fat removal. A thin tube, or cannula, is inserted through these incisions to loosen the fat using a controlled back-and-forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula, refining the contours of the body.

SmartLipo™

SmartLipo™ utilizes local anesthesia to numb the treatment area, making the procedure minimally invasive with reduced downtime. The process begins with small incisions in the targeted areas. A laser fiber is then used to deliver thermal energy directly to the fat cells, causing them to liquefy. This liquid fat is easier to remove and is suctioned out of the body. The laser energy also stimulates collagen production, leading to skin tightening benefits in the treated areas.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

An arm lift starts with an incision along the inside or back of the upper arm, which may extend from the underarm to just above the elbow, depending on the amount of excess skin. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed to create a more toned appearance. The underlying supportive tissue is then tightened and reshaped with internal sutures. Finally, the skin is smoothed over the new contour of the arm, and the incisions are closed.

Back Lift

A back lift starts with horizontal incisions across the back, either at the bra line for women or in a well-concealed area for men, depending on the specific areas of concern. Excess skin and fat are removed from the back, and the remaining skin is pulled tight to create a smoother, more defined back contour. The muscles and tissues underneath may also be tightened to enhance the overall result.
